The North East Wyoming Surgery Center is under new ownership — the specialty-trained orthopedic surgeons of Black Hills Orthopedic & Spine Center of Wyoming. Dr. Monica Morman, a dual-fellowship-trained hand and upper extremity surgeon with Harvard postdoctoral specialty training and over 15 years of experience serving patients in Gillette, will be the medical director of the facility. Fellowship-trained, board-certified orthopedic foot and ankle surgeon Dr. Peg Chilvers, who relocated from the practice’s Rapid City location to the practice in Gillette full-time, is the practice president and will be providing surgical services at the new facility.
As part of the transition to new ownership, the facility has been renamed to “Black Hills Surgery Center of Wyoming,” and Jessica Huckins, BSN, RN, CNOR, RNFA, is the new administrator. The new logo will be:

The surgery center’s principal focus will be bone, joint and muscle (orthopedic and spine) procedures and services. But many other local surgeons are privileged to work at the facility, including surgeons specializing in general surgery. Patients can request their surgery be performed at Black Hills Surgery Center of Wyoming and should know that the facility is held to the highest of standards by its physician owners to meet all patients’ and surgeons’ surgical needs in a safe, secure environment. Currently, the surgery center includes one operating room, but the practice has plans to grow. Aaron Hall, CRNA, and his company, Cloud Peak Anesthesia, LLC, provide most of the anesthesia services at the facility.
In addition to Drs. Morman and Chilvers, all surgeons at Black Hills Orthopedic & Spine Center of Wyoming are credentialed and privileged to operate at the facility. This includes fellowship-trained spine surgeons Dr. Robert Woodruff and Dr. Christian Gaffney, board-certified orthopedic surgeon Dr. Jeff Marrs as well as fellowship-trained orthopedic surgeons Dr. Michael Kadrmas and Dr. Emmett McEleney. Twelve other doctors from the Black Hills Orthopedic & Spine Center practice will also have surgical privileges at the facility.
“We’re proud to offer this high-level, convenient care to our patients in Gillette and the surrounding areas,” says Dr. Morman. “We also aim to expand the facility to better fit the orthopedic needs of our community, which is a goal we are dedicated to meeting.”
Black Hills Orthopedic & Spine Center of Wyoming is also looking forward to Gillette-based Dr. Robert Grunfeld joining the practice in late 2020/early 2021. He plans to bring his foot and ankle expertise to the practice and Black Hills Surgery Center of Wyoming.
