Lindsay Aarseth, ATC, ITAT, NSCA-CPT, certified athletic trainer at St. Thomas More High School and an employee at Black Hills Surgical Hospital, has been named the regional nominee for The 2017 – 2018 Newell National Athletic Trainer of the Year Award. As the regional nominee, Aarseth will advance on to join other regional nominees from across the nation to be considered The Newell Award National Athletic Trainer of the Year, which will be announced in May.
In partnership with local leading orthopaedic practices, such as Black Hills Orthopedic & Spine Center in Rapid City and surrounding areas, The 2017 – 2018 Newell National Athletic Trainer of the Year Award recognizes athletic trainers for the service and leadership they provide local athletic communities. Based on examples of service, leadership and shared experiences from community members, nominees for The Newell National Athletic Trainer of the Year Award are determined regionally. Over 150 exceptional shared experiences from community members were received in support of Aarseth’s regional nomination for the National Award.
“The outpouring of support from community members on Ms. Aarseth’s behalf has been tremendous and certainly well-deserved,” says Dr. Lew Papendick, sports medicine surgeon with Black Hills Orthopedic & Spine Center. “We feel honored to acknowledge her efforts by partnering with The Newell Award to recognize the region’s top athletic trainers for the service and leadership they display while treating our community’s athletes.”
Aarseth, a certified local athletic trainer for the community and St. Thomas More High School, received her bachelor of science degree in athletic training from the University of Mary in Bismarck, North Dakota; she then went on to earn her master of science degree in human movement and performance from Western Washington University in Bellingham, Washington. She has been providing sports medicine coverage to St. Thomas More High School since 2014, and she was the recipient of a grant to start an athletic training program at St. Thomas More. With this grant, she designed a dual-purpose athletic training room for education and training, and she also created the curriculum from scratch. She has been extremely involved in the sports medicine community, caring for injured athletes and educating future athletic trainers through her work.
In addition to Aarseth, there were other exceptional candidates considered for regional nomination for The 2017 – 2018 Newell National Athletic Trainer of the Year Award including Sage Robinson-Miller of Sturgis Brown High School and Newell High School.
“The testimonials received on behalf of the candidates demonstrate how fortunate we are at Black Hills Orthopedic & Spine Center to work with such an incredible group of medical professionals,” continues Dr. Papendick. “It is also a reminder to our communities how lucky we are to have them on the sidelines for our student athletes.”
