iovera° Cold Therapy
Black Hills Orthopedic & Spine Center is committed to delivering the latest pain management solutions for our patients, striving to minimize using opioids whenever possible. As part of this dedication, we are proud to offer iovera°, a revolutionary cryoanalgesia treatment for postsurgical pain management or an alternative for patients who are not undergoing surgery.
The iovera° treatment harnesses the power of targeted cold therapy to deliver immediate and enduring relief from knee pain without medication. By leveraging the body's innate response to cold, this innovative approach effectively intercepts pain signals before and after surgery.
How It Works
With the direction of our expert provider team, our specialized approach utilizes a precision-guided device along with ultrasound technology to create a localized cold zone in the treatment area. This controlled cold exposure temporarily interrupts nerve signals, offering relief without causing harm to surrounding tissues. Following this technique, pain relief persists until nerve regeneration occurs, typically within 2 to 4 months.
This noninvasive outpatient procedure allows patients to return home promptly after treatment.
The Advantages of iovera° Treatment
For patients undergoing knee replacement or those with knee osteoarthritis, iovera° treatment can help patients experience benefits like:
- Immediate pain relief, lasting up to 90 days
- Fewer opioid prescriptions
- Improved knee function and mobility
- Less stiffness at 30 days
Who Can Benefit From iovera°?
The iovera° treatment can help patients who are looking to:
- Alleviate pain associated with knee replacement
- Interrupt nerve signals responsible for pain transmission
- Accelerate the recovery journey
The iovera° treatment is unsuitable for patients with the following conditions:
- Pain originating from the central nervous system
