Dr. Nathan Jacobson is a fellowship-trained sports medicine surgeon who specializes in sports-related injuries as well as comprehensive hip, knee, and shoulder care. Dr. Jacobson first came to Black Hills Orthopedic & Spine Center as a patient when he played college basketball and tore the labrum in his left shoulder, and Dr. Lew Papendick repaired the tear. His experience as an athlete with a rehabilitated injury led him to pursue orthopedic surgery and sports medicine training. Dr. Jacobson then joined Black Hills Orthopedic & Spine Center in 2024.

A native of Rapid City, Dr. Jacobson completed his Bachelor of Science degree in interdisciplinary studies at South Dakota School of Mines & Technology in Rapid City. He then earned his medical degree at the University of South Dakota Sanford School of Medicine in Sioux Falls. After medical school, Dr. Jacobson completed his residency training in orthopedic surgery at the world-renowned Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. He then underwent advanced subspecialty training in sports medicine at Twin Cities Orthopedics in Edina, Minnesota, where he provided sports medicine care for the Minnesota Vikings and the Minnesota Twins as well as other area teams.

Honored to return to Rapid City and the Black Hills to help take care of the community he grew up in, Dr. Jacobson enjoys improving the musculoskeletal health of his patients. His practice philosophy focuses on individualized treatment plans using leading-edge technology in the operating room, evidence-based medicine, and shared decision-making principles to treat each of his patients.

Dr. Jacobson is available to see patients in Rapid City, South Dakota.

When he isn’t in clinic or in surgery, Dr. Jacobson spends his time with his wife, Bre, and their three daughters. He is often enjoying the Black Hills and being outdoors and makes time to play golf, camp, and go boating.
